ERC REFINE

Robots Explore plankton-drivern Fluxes in the Marine twIlight zoNE

The scientific objective of REFINE is to understand and quantify the physical, biological and biogeochemical processes controlling the biological carbon pump, a key component of the oceanic CO2 sequestration. REFINE will implement breakthrough profiling float-based robotic process studies. It involves the development of a new generation of multidisciplinary vertically profiling floats, uniquely able to address phyto- and zooplankton community composition as well as particulate carbon fluxes.
